Paludo preps at VIR for upcoming race

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Jeb Burton capitalized on valuable assistance with his test session Thursday at VIR.

Burton’s teammate, Miguel Paludo, also tested with the Turner Scott Motorsports team.

“I tested here last year, first time in a (NASCAR) Nationwide car. It helped me a lot to get a feel for the car. The race track is flat, has hard braking, turns and corners,” Paludo said.

It was important with a NCWTS race at Canada to test at VIR. The team tested shocks and ran through preparations for the Sept. 1 appearance at Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Paludo endorsed the layout at VIR for a NASCAR truck race. “I think it’d be awesome.

“We could run here easily. It’s close to Charlotte, Mooresville (N.C.), a nice race track, a nice facility. Heavy braking, fast corners, tight corners, downhill, uphill, road course, that’s all you ask for. I think it’d be great,” said Paludo.

The teams have to go through considerable preparation for one road course race, but Paludo said teams cannot afford to lose ground on a road course.

“We have 22 races on the year. You can’t lose points,” said Paludo. “You try as hard as you can. If you lose ten points, you’re going to miss it at the end of the year.”

Paludo is pleased a road course has been added to the NCWTS.

Paludo enjoys working with Burton.

“He’s a friend, first of all. We talk a lot.

Paludo assists Burton with road course work, while Burton helps his teammate with ovals.

Paludo is currently seventh in the NCWTS points, with 351 points. He trails the leader by 78 points, part of a strong team showing by Turner Scott Motorsports.
