South Boston council meets tonight

South Boston Town Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey Street. The meeting is set for one week earlier then usual due to conflicts in the schedule of Council members.

With a light agenda Council is first expected to approve the expenditure of some $2,848 annually for the LeadsOnline program.

During Council’s work session last week South Boston Police Investigator Randy Redd told members that the system is a very important tool in solving burglaries and other crimes. The national program collects information from some 37,000 investigators and 22,000 reporting agencies and works to solve burglaries, identity theft and even homicide cases. Finance chairman Coleman Speece at that time called support of the program “a no brainer.”

In other business this evening Council is expected to make appointments to the South Boston-Halifax County Transportation Safety Commission.

South Boston Town Manager Tom Raab is expecting to report on any information about projects that are on going or slated for the future.

He is also expected to remind Council members that Public Works Director Alan Auld has announced plans to retire Dec. 31.
