Swimmers pick up wins over Prince Edward, Appomattox

The Halifax County High School swim teams passed a significant test Friday night at home, pushing back against Appomattox.

The Comet boys prevailed, 53-34, and the girls also emerged with a solid 48-36 win.

Appomattox really pushed the Comets, providing them with spirited competition.

“This was a really good team we faced tonight. As a team they challenged us to the end and we were fortunate we pulled it off in the end,” said coach Shawn Torian.

On Wednesday, the Comets swept both ends of a meet against Prince Edward County.

The Comet boys won, 49-23, and the girls rolled to a 54-24 win.

“I thought we did good for being away from the pool for the holiday break and inclement weather. We still have room to drop times. We are going go at it hard for the next two weeks and see what our peak performance can be. “Our goal is to win the district and qualify as many swimmers as we can to regional competition,’ said Torian.

HCHS won 15 of 22 events, with the boys recording five individual victories and the girls collecting four individual wins. The boys and girls teams swept the relay events.
