Veterans Day parade set Saturday in South Boston


The community’s annual Veterans Day Parade will be held Saturday. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Carrington Street and Wilborn Avenue (across from Hardees). Entrants are asked to please arrive by 10:30 a.m. at the latest to line up. If you would like to register to be in the parade, please call Cary Ford at 434-470-7977.

The parade will continue down Main Street and end at Constitution Square. There will be a ceremony in Constitution Square after the parade with an invocation by the Rev. Gregory Thomas and Tommy Hines, American Legion Past 5th District Commander as speaker. Coffee will be provided by Brooks-Lyon Funeral Home.

The parade lineup begins with the American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard followed by the Halifax County High School JROTC , POW MIAs , Pete Myers, Dr. Roger Brown, American Legion Past 5th District Commander Wayne Bowen, American Legion Past 5th District Commander Tommy Hines, David Lawson, American Legion Post 8 Commander, Grace Elliott, VFW Past 5th District President, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Past President Margie Logan, Carolyn Lewis, VFW Ladies Auxiliary President, VFW Commander Kelly Gregory, VFW Past Commander Odie Lewis, VFW, AL & VVA 4-wheelers, Town of South Boston Vice-Mayor Coleman Speece, Woodview bus carrying veterans, Rev. Gregory Thomas, Pastor of True Light Baptist Church, Bill Crews, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, a float, American Legion Riders Randy Tingen, six motorcycles, WHLF 95.3 , South Boston Fire Dept. truck, Clint Day’s Motorcycle/Side car, HCHS Marching Comets Band, Antique Fire Truck from Rays Key & Lock, American Legion Van, VIR vehicle, HCHS Choir, HCHS Football Team and Cheerleaders, Mark Genfrey, David Franklin, Bobby Wilbourne, Robert Oakes, B.J. Thornburg, Billy Guthrie, Weldon Anderson, Benny Smith, Alvin Tucker and Cecil Lawson’s antique vehicles. Chandler Hughes and Randy Tune will end the procession on their horses.
