Ex-HCHS coach faces charges in Henrico

A Henrico County teacher and football coach with local ties has been arrested on charges of sending text messages from a cell phone in order to solicit pornographic material from an underage female student at the school. William Macgregor “Mac” Leighton, 31, was charged on Tuesday morning by Henrico County police. He was scheduled to appear in Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court yesterday for a preliminary hearing.

Sixth grade math teacher David Graham was named Halifax County’s 2009 Division Teacher of the Year at the annual “Teacher of the Year Banquet” held Tuesday night at The Prizery. Graham, Halifax County Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, was selected from the ten teachers representing the county’s public schools.

Halifax County has 203 All Stars this year with four of those being named Four Times All Stars and seven others cited as Three Times All Stars. Their achievements ranged from academic excellence to sports and extra curricula activities.
