Halifax parking, traffic to undergo temporary changes / June 14, 2021

Two minor projects associated with the courthouse renovations will cause temporary disruptions in parking and traffic patterns around the historic Halifax County Courthouse this week.

Starting today, Dunavant Engineering will begin removing asphalt at the south parking lot below the Blue Ridge Jail. The company will be repaving the parking lot with completion of the project expected by Friday.

Signage has been installed stating the parking lot is closed and asking motorists to please use the Farmers Market parking lot on Main Street. The Farmers Market lot will be used as temporary parking for the courthouse.

“The work should take five days, Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, assuming no bad weather interferes,” according to James Bogue, project manager for Blair Construction, Inc. in Gretna. Blair is the general contractor for the courthouse renovation project.

Edmunds Boulevard will be paved on Saturday, with temporary striping installed the next day. Permanent striping will be installed on a future Saturday per VDOT’s requirements, Bogue said.

The work to Edmunds Boulevard will take place on Saturday to minimize disruptions for the court system.

Duvanant Engineering will perform the work on a contractual basis for Blair Construction.
