SVCC to offer Fuel Smart Fridays to help with transportation costs / July 17, 2012
Fuel Smart Fridays at Southside Virginia Community College will save students money on gasoline.

The college offers a plan where students can take classes on a fulltime basis and only travel to campus one day a week — Friday.

A student can take six credits of seated classes on Fridays and two online classes to be fulltime working towards a degree.

While the college has strategically located campuses and centers, it also serves the largest region in the state (4,200 square miles), so many students live some distance from a college site. For instance, from Farmville to Keysville is a round trip of about 40 miles or more which adds up in fuel savings and time savings, too.

The courses offered through this FSF program will require at least 50 percent of work outside of the classroom. By taking 12 – 15 credits each Friday for four to six semesters, students can complete an Associate’s degree.

On the John H. Daniel campus, the offerings for Fall 2012 include Math and Health at 8 a.m., Biology at 9 a.m. English at 9:30, Information Technology and English at 11 a.m., Art at 12:30, Student Development or Economics at 12:30, Psychology and Religion at 2 p.m., Human Services at 3:30 and Art at 4 p.m.

On the Christanna Campus in Alberta, the offerings include English, Human Services or Sociology at 9 a.m., Psychology at 9:30 a.m. , Humanities at 10 a.m., Air Conditioning at noon through 3:50 p.m., Biology at noon, and Biology, History and Information Technology at 12:30 and Human Services and Philosophy at 1 p.m.

For more information about these courses, contact your advisor or counselor. Sign up for Friday classes, save time, money, gas and get an education all at once. or call 1-888-220-SVCC.
