A South Boston man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty in January of 11 charges of possession of child pornography and computer trespass.

Alice Carden Staten, 87, of 4062 Hwy. 92, Clover died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on Sept. 23, 1922, daughter of the late Joshua Carden and Verelie Coleman Carden. She was married to the late Ralph Staten Jr. and was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church, serving as deaconess.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph Staten of South Boston and James Staten of Clover; six daughters, Odessa Crews, Faye Staten-Brown, both of Temple Hills, Md., Vivian Staten-Collins of Oakland, Calif., Rosa Perkins of Newport News, Mable Haddock and Brenda Staten, both of New York City; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria Mitchell; one brother, Joshua Carden; one son-in-law, Leon Brown; one daughter-in-law, Vealer Staten, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, William “Bill” Staten and two brothers, Cephus Carden and Royal Carden.

A funeral will be held Friday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at Zion Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jefferson Goode officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at her home.
