Charles Berkley Johnson Jr.

Charles Berkley Johnson Jr., son of the late Charles Berkley Johnson, Sr. and Kathleen Mason Johnson, was born Nov. 30, 1947 in Mecklenburg County. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at Community Memorial Health Center, South Hill.

At an early age he joined Mt. Zion Baptist. He received his education in the Mecklenburg County Public School System. Charles began his work experience with Doug Gupton Roofing for a number of years. He was later employed by the Town of Clarksville as a maintenance worker and by Burlington Industries. As his health began to decline, he retired from Uppy’s as a custodian. He was a friendly person who enjoyed the company of family and friends.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, three sisters, Eloise Bullock and Barbara Davis, both of Clarksville, and Ada M. Lee of Manhattan, N.Y., two aunts: Ophelia Sizemore and Hattie Johnson; and a host of nieces including one devoted, Yolanda Shields,; and nephews, including one devoted, William Bullock; numerous other relatives and caring friends.

A funeral was held on Thursday, Sept, 9, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Dr. Freddie E. Terry Officiating.

Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarksville.

Carters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
