Newell Ray Wilkinson, 86, of South Boston died Monday, April 5, 2021. He was born on March 23, 1935 to Robert and Margaret Petty Wilkinson and was married to Faye Wilkinson, who survives. He was an engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 42 years and received his pilot’s license in 1953. Ray loved his animals and watching football, Redskins being his favorite. He loved trains, old country music and working in his yard.

In addition to his wife Faye, he is survived by children, Keith Wilkinson, Vickie Francis and Travis, Cindy Watkins, James Francis, Sandy Huff and Randall, C.T. Boswell and Mandy, and Kayla Hollingsworth; grandchildren, Faith, Kaitlin, Tyler, MacKenzie, Ridge, J.T., Wyatt, Sam, David, Gabby, and T.J.; great grandchildren, Jordan, Ashlee and one on the way, Elena Rae; and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ellison and a brother, Gilbert Wilkinson.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
