Ruth Elliott Gierisch

Ruth Elliott Gierisch died peacefully at home on Sept, 11, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene of the home; a daughter, Jeanne Bengel of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons: Joseph C. Gierisch of Raleigh, and Kenneth A. Gierisch of South Hill; one brother, Robert H. Elliott Jr. of Corolla, N.J., and four grandchildren: Kristen and Caroline Tyndall, Daniel Gierisch and Lucas Bengel.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Henderson, N.C.; the Lake Gaston Ladies Club, and All Saints’ Episcopal Church in South Hill. She was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the governor of North Carolina.

Memorial services will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 201 Franklin Street, South Hill, on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sandi Kerner officiating.

A Celebration of Life reception, hosted by the Episcopal Church Women, will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints’ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 58, South Hill, VA 23970 or to Community Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 90, South Hill, VA 23970.
