Thomas Calvin Woody Sr.

Thomas Calvin Woody Sr., 77, of South Boston died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Woodview Nursing Home. He was born in Halifax County on Jan. 28, 1933, son of the late John Woody and Marie Woody and was a member of First Baptist Church, News Ferry.

He is survived by six sons, Calvin Woody, James Woody, Charles Woody, Tyrone Woody and Woodrow Woody, all of South Boston and Larry Woody of Durham, N.C.; four daughters, Frances Kirby, Willie Dean Cassada, both of South Boston, Nakita Jones of Danville, Brenda Noell of Durham, N.C.; 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; six daughters-in-law, Shirley, Carolyn, Angela, Nicola, Jackie and Isis Woody and two sons-in-law, Samuel Kirby and Dyrian Canada; his God-children, Johnny Jones, Gary Jones, Sheree Galand; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, George L. Woody, one daughter, one brother, George Woody and two granddaughters, Joy Woody and Wanda Patrick.

A funeral will be held Friday, July 16 at noon at Crawford House Chapel, Halifax with Rev. Shirley Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Garden Cemetery. Public viewing at Jeffress Funeral Home Thursday from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends at 1318 Porter Lane, South Boston.
