Caring hands / May 21, 2009
Dear Viewpoint:

The only perception that I used to have about nursing homes was the result of negative things that I had heard on television. Now that I have had a personal experience with one, I know better; I know that there are good nursing homes. When the time came that my Mother’s supervision and care needs increased to the point that she could no longer live at home, she moved to The Woodview in South Boston where she resided for more than a year. Having never had the experience of admitting someone to a nursing home, I was not quite sure where to start. Julie Gilliam, the admissions manager at The Woodview, assisted me through every step of the entire process and quickly laid my fears to rest. During my Mother’s residence at The Woodview, Julie and all of the other staff were at all times very attentive and helpful.

I am very grateful to all of the staff at The Woodview for the care and personal attention they gave to my Mother. I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nursing staff on Unit II, who made it their business to know and relate to my Mother as an individual. I will always remember the dignity, respect and compassion that she received there. The staff continually kept me informed of everything about my Mother’s condition and her care. I visited her every day and as I came to know the staff at The Woodview, it became clear to me that they are all very special people. I also received a blessing from the other residents who live there from whom I learned a lot.

Thank you to all of the staff at The Woodview. May God continue to bless you as you care for others.
