Bluestone softball ousted in Region 2A tournament / June 05, 2019

The Bluestone softball team had a very solid season, including winning two games in the VHSL Region 2A postseason tournament before losing to Nottoway 5-0 last week to end their season.

Bluestone ended their regular season 10-8, which was good enough for the team to earn the No. 5 seed in the region tournament. In the regions, Bluestone was able to take out Randolph-Henry 16-4 in their first game.

In their second game of the region tournament Bluestone played against Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School in Richmond. MWGS is out of the Colonial District. Bluestone, representing the James River District, pulled off a shocker in this game, taking the 23-3 upset win over the No. 4 seeded Lady Dragons, who began region play with a first-round bye.

Bluestone’s next competition was Nottoway, also a member of the JRD. Nottoway had handled Bluestone in regular season action, winning both games by shutouts of 9-0 and 17-0. Though Bluestone was dealt another shutout loss at 5-0 in region play, the Lady Barons brought a good game to Nottoway.

Nottoway went on to lose the Region 2A championship to Amelia, a team also in the JRD. Which goes to show how competitive the JRD was this season in softball.

Nottoway and Amelia began VHSL AA state competition yesterday (Tuesday) with Nottoway taking on the Region B champion, Page County at Page High School. Amelia host Madison County, the Region B runner-up.
