Comet boys fall short in 8-4 soccer loss to Tunstall

SoVaNow.com / June 10, 2021
Halifax County High School boys soccer came up short Tuesday, falling to Tunstall 8-4.

The Comets posted the first goal of the match when Wyatt Nelson struck goal at the 32:23 mark. Approximately two minutes later Tunstall knotted the score at 1-1.

The visitors drove for the field for three more scores before Halifax hit goal with around two minutes remaining in the first half. The score at the half was 4-2 Tunstall.

Tunstall came out in the second half scoring four goals for the 8-2 lead. Halifax would fight back with two goals from Colin Gravitt.

Coach Mario Sadler said though his guys lost, it was some of the best soccer they have played all year in a trying season. The team had 15 shots on goal and 16 saves.

“Even with the loss we played our best game of the season,” Sadler said. “The guys didn’t quit and they fought hard the entire game.

“The team did all the little things right and even though the outcome wasn’t in our favor it was a great step in the right direction against one of the top two teams in the district. “Alex Payne played a great game with two assist. Josh Roberts made some great saves.

“We are hoping to keep this play up heading into the season finale with GW on Thursday.”
