Ferrell has 80-yard scoring run in UAB loss

Former Comet Mark Ferrell had an 80-yard scoring run Saturday for the University of Alabama-Birmingham, but the Blazers fell short.

UAB (1-1) fell to SMU in an electrifying game, 35-33, at Birmingham, Ala.

UAB trailed 28-7 at the half, but almost rallied to win. The Blazers had a 20-0 edge in the third period.

Ferrell’s run came with 1:46 left in the third period, helping the Blazers to cut SMU’s lead to 28-14.

Ferrell had two rushes for 85 yards in UAB’s loss Saturday.
