Jeb Burton optimistic

Local driver Jeb Burton has reason for optimism heading into the season opener Saturday at South Boston Speedway. “We’ve been practicing, we’ve been going to the track. We’ve been doing real good, we’ve been fast. We’ve been real consistent, just getting the car ready for (Saturday),” said J. Burton. The 16-year-old driver is looking forward to a full season in limited sportsman at SBS.

Puryear, Gosney pairing continues

The championship pairing of Stacy Puryear and Matt Gosney returns this season on the NASCAR late model scene. Puryear and Gosney teamed up to win the late model title at Orange County Speedway last season. Puryear is planning to run the opener Saturday at South Boston Speedway, and hopes to campaign full-time here. He hopes to make as many races as possible in the late model division at South Boston. “We’re going to race as much as we can. Hopefully, we’ll be able to run them all, and hopefully we can run real well,” said Puryear.

James, Bailey teaming up

Jody James, son of legendary stock car builder and crew chief Steve James, was recently named crew chief for Jonathan Bailey of Buffalo Junction. Bailey returns to James Racing for the 2009 season after leaving in mid-season of 2008 to drive for Frank Deiny Jr.

Peregoy seeking Limited title

Coming off a successful 2008, Tommy Peregoy of Clarksville, has his sights set on the Limited Sportsman Championship this season at South Boston Speedway.

After years of winning track championships with a number of top drivers, Steve James will build cars for a promising young female driver. Laura Hayes from Wilton, Calif. will be driving a Late Model car for James Racing at the South Boston Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

Johnson seeks SBS LMSC title

New year. New team. New number. Same driver. Justin Johnson of Roxboro, N.C. finished as the runner-up to Wayne Ramsey in the chase for the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division championship at South Boston Speedway in 2008 despite posting multiple victories in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action on the famed four-tenths mile oval.
